v2.0Major product release

Echo 2.0 moves the product from a simple voice dictation tool toward a broader speech productivity platform. The app now has a redesigned main interface, three distinct product tracks, and the first foundation for Meeting Copilot.

Release overview

Echo 2.0 is no longer just a fast dictation utility. The app now includes three product tracks inside one interface: Dictation, File Transcription, and Meeting Transcription, plus the first architectural direction toward a Meeting Copilot workspace.

  • The core interface was rebuilt: the old menu bar popover is replaced by a full main window with sidebar navigation and dedicated work areas.
  • Dictation is now clearer and more mature visually while keeping the same fast hotkey-based speech-to-text flow.
  • File Transcription is a separate workflow for turning existing audio and video files into saved text output.
  • Meeting Transcription is built for recording and transcribing full meetings, calls, and longer conversations.
  • Meeting Copilot is the next step: live knowledge-base assistance during calls, coming soon.

Dictation

The fastest workflow stays intact: press the hotkey, speak, and get clean text. In v2.0 the experience becomes clearer, more reliable, and more mature visually.

  • Dictation now lives inside the new main window with status, history, and quick actions.
  • There is a new menu bar status indication: a yellow icon means Echo is recording and waiting for your voice input, while a green icon means transcription is already in progress.
  • Grok is now supported as an alternative to OpenAI.

File Transcription

Echo can now handle existing audio and video files, not only live speech. This is a separate workflow that does not replace the regular clipboard-style dictation flow.

  • Transcription support for saved media files.
  • Drag and drop for audio and video.
  • A file queue with sequential processing for multiple jobs.
  • Saving output as `.txt` with a dedicated output folder choice.
  • A clearer UI for queue state, task status, cancelation, and cleanup.

Meeting Transcription

Echo can now capture both microphone input and system audio to preserve a conversation end to end and turn it into text. This mode is designed for long sessions such as calls, interviews, and internal meetings.

  • Meeting recording with microphone and system-audio capture.
  • A dedicated workflow separate from short dictation.
  • Saving meeting audio to disk and keeping the transcript next to the recording.
  • Meeting history and basic in-app stats.
  • Separate process states for recording, saving audio, and transcription.
  • More explicit permission flows for microphone and system audio.

Meeting Copilot

Product direction

In v2.0 this exists as a visible workspace inside the new app architecture, but it is not yet a finished shipping feature. The idea is to assist during calls by surfacing useful knowledge-base hints while the conversation is happening.

  • A dedicated section already exists in the product structure.
  • It is a workspace for meetings and calls, not just another dictation mode.
  • It is especially useful for sales teams, technical teams, and conversations that require fast access to company data.
  • The next step after Meeting Transcription is to surface knowledge-base guidance, build working context, and help people handle calls with more confidence.
